LMC - 23/09/2017
The no46 Ebimotors Lamborghini of Emanuele Busnelli recorded the fastest GT3 lap with the Italian posting a 2m24.034 in final few minutes of the session to push the no7 Lee Mowle Mercedes, driven by team owner Lee Mowle, into second position by 0.121s. Busnelli had two spins early on in the session and had a lap deleted due to exceeding track limits. However, he fought back and recorded the best time of the GT3 qualifying session with two minutes remaining to take the team’s fourth pole of 2017.
The LMP3 class was headed for the fifth time this season by the no3 DKR Engineering Norma M30-Nissan of Jean Glorieux. The Belgian driver stormed around his home circuit to record a fastest lap of 2m15.575, a massive 1.881s ahead of the rest of the 14 car field led by championship contender Tony Wells in the no79 Nielsen Racing Ligier.
Glorieux didn’t make it easy for himself as he spun at Turn 5, skidding across the grass and reversing the Norma into the tyre barrier. The Belgian returned to the pits for the car to be checked before he returned to the track. He immediately set the provisional pole time with a 2m16.451 and then went 0.8 seconds quicker on the next lap just before the chequered flag.
Row 2 is an all French line up with the no99 N’Race Ligier of Alain Costa finishing third fastest with a 2m18.456, just 0.008s ahead of the no65 Graff Ligier of Adrien Chila.
The 120-minute race at Spa-Francorchamps will start at 16h00 (CET) this afternoon, which could decide the destination of some or all of the Michelin Le Mans Cup class titles. The race will be shown live and uninterrupted on the website at www.lemanscup.com
